Getting started with the free plugin

On this page

Hyndla Gift Cards is a complete gift card plugin for WooCommerce, free under GPL. No licence key, no phone-home, no nag screens.

Install

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New in your WordPress admin.
  2. Search for "Hyndla Gift Cards" and click Install, then Activate.
  3. Open Gift Cards → Settings and choose your default currency and which preset amounts customers can pick from.

Create the gift card product

The plugin adds a new product type to WooCommerce: "Gift Card". Set preset amounts (for example 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kroner) or let the customer type a custom amount within a range you set. Add fields for recipient, sender and a personal message.

Test a delivery

Add the gift card to the cart, complete the purchase, and check for the email with the PDF and QR code. The code can be redeemed at the register right away — see Redeeming at the register.

What's in the free plugin

  • Gift card product with preset or custom amounts, recipient, sender, message, scheduled delivery.
  • Apply one or more cards at cart and checkout, classic and Blocks, with any payment method.
  • Every balance change is a row in an append-only ledger: when, how much, which channel, which location, who. Nothing is edited in place.
  • Admin: card list, card detail with full history, manual redeem with note, adjust with reason, disable, resend, offline cards.
  • My Account page and a public balance page reached by scanning the card's QR code.
  • Migration from WP Swings and CSV import — existing codes stay valid.
  • Norwegian Bokmål, Nynorsk, Danish, Swedish and English, complete.

Pro adds the hosted staff app, reports and multilingual support — see Connecting a site to the Pro app.
