Redeeming at the register

The staff app at hyndla.no/gift-cards is built to redeem a card quickly, whether staff are using a tablet or a PC.

Three ways to redeem#

1. Type the code. Most cards have a code printed on the receipt or sent by email.
2. Read the presentation code. The customer shows a six-character code from their email or balance page — faster to read aloud than the full card code.
3. Scan the customer's phone. The QR code from the confirmation email can be scanned directly with the tablet's camera.

Partial redemption#

The amount redeemed can be less than the balance. The rest stays on the card for later — just like a gift card in a physical shop.

Reversal#

If a purchase is reversed, the redemption can be reversed from the card's history in the app. This adds a new row to the ledger (never a change to the original row), so the full history stays traceable for the accountant.

Adjustments#

A staff member with the "admin" or "owner" role can adjust the balance manually, always with a reason stored on the row. "Staff" can redeem, but not adjust.
